Season 12 is both a reemergence and a metamorphosis – a nod to the past and an unapologetic look forward at how ballet can show up more inclusive and culturally relevant in our 21st century world. This season we celebrate the grand opening of our monumental new center for dance and culture and premiere bold new works that both pay homage to the rich legacy we are part of and provide a glimpse into the exciting future we are moving towards. The season kicked off with Collage’s GRAND OPENING weekend – a Homecoming festival, Sept. 23 – 25, 2021, featuring first looks at the completed new dance center, performances from Collage’s professional company and youth ensemble, a Grand Opening Gala featuring Eric Benét and Community Day – the largest celebration of dance featuring performances from Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Syncopated Ladies, Nashville Ballet, and a host of hometown favorites.

RISE, Collage’s trademark winter program, returns to the Cannon Center, bigger and bolder than ever before.

Experience Kevin Thomas’ iconic ballet Rise, Ulysses Dove’s classic work Vespers and Geoffrey Holder’s masterpiece Dougla, featuring and performed in partnership with the internationally-acclaimed Dance Theatre of Harlem.

You simply don’t want to miss Collage Dance Collective’s return to the stage after a 2-year hiatus and Dance Theatre of Harlem’s return to Memphis for the first time in five years!

This spring, we present the world-premiere of Kevin Thomas’ FIREBIRD set in an enchanted South African jungle, complete with a mesmerizing new set design by Alex Woodward, lighting design by Wilburn Bonnell and costume design by Gabriela Moros Diaz.  Stravinsky’s powerful score is brought to life by artists of the Memphis Symphony Orchestra.

Collage Dance Collective presents Art in Motion, the 12th Annual Student Concert featuring more than 300 students from the Collage Ballet Conservatory. Established in September 2009, the Conservatory is the fastest growing ballet program in Memphis with the mission of making outstanding ballet instruction more widely accessible. Art in Motion will serve as the students’ first live performance in two years.
