FLSA Status: Part-time, Independent Contractor

Salary: $30/hr

Collage Dance, a fast-growing and mission-driven national nonprofit organization, is looking to hire an enthusiastic dance instructor for our Turning Pointe program. Compassionate, innovative, inspiring, resilient, intuitive, proactive—these are just a few of the characteristics you should possess as a Collage Dance Turning Pointe teaching artist. 

In this role, you will be responsible for bringing high caliber, Ballet technique and facilitation, as well as strong knowledge in Ballet history and excellent classroom management skills to young learners in Memphis city schools during daytime and after school programming hours.  

To be successful as a Turning Pointe Teacher, you’ll need to be comfortable working in many different settings, have time management awareness, be highly motivated, a team player, and ready to receive any and all opportunities to grow as an individual through the privilege of teaching in outreach settings. 

As a Turning Pointe Teacher you will: 

  • Instruct Memphis City Public School students (ranging from pre-k – 12 grade) in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, or Hip Hop
  • Execute Turning Pointe Curriculum exercises, providing your personal modifications as you see fit 
  • Monitor and record curriculum impact on students 
  • Serve as a mentor and positive role model to students and fellow Turning Pointe Teachers
  • Handle conflicts and common behavioral challenges during facilitation, with an intention to resolve issues proactively and efficiently
  • Utilize your background and career in dance to bring strong technique and knowledge of dance experiences to the students
  • Be prepared to work in any of our 15 school communities and school sites
  • Be physically prepared to meet the demands of setting up your physical spaces at school sites, pick-up and drop-off supplies, and facilitate the activities of your assigned placements
  • Routine student data entry, attendance tracking, and maintenance of activity logs 
  • Attend monthly faculty meetings

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications and abilities:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Dance or Performing Arts 
  • Minimum of 2 years professional performance in dance career
  • A minimum of 2 years experience working in city public schools or equivalent
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with Social Emotional Learning framework
  • Ability to work well and collaborate with team members
  • Willing to be fingerprinted through the State Department of Education
  • Fluent in Spanish, a plus 
  • Experience in Anti-Racist Education and Restorative Justice
