We are Reframing the Narrative! For over 14 years, Collage Dance has been working hard to inspire growth and diversity in classical ballet and the fine arts. The work is on-going, but the impacts are already visible.

With the fastest growing dance program in the region, the successful completion of an $11M capital campaign, and the construction of one of the largest centers for dance of its kind in the nation, Collage is building “roots and wings” in Memphis.

We are cementing our roots as a cultural anchor of the community-centric revitalization happening in Binghampton and spreading our wings as we represent the beauty and resilience of Memphis as one of the city’s chief cultural exports through our extensive national touring.

At every turn, Collage is shining a light on stories from communities of color that have been absent or erased from the classical arts canon. Reframing the Narrative happens when we train 1,000 kids a week in Memphis schools and in the Collage Dance Conservatory, by sharing dance with adults of all ages and abilities through our Continuum classes, and through the opulent and ecstatic performances of the virtuosic dancers of the Collective.

All of the programs, production, and people of our 15th Season are outlined in the pages ahead. It is our hope that something will connect with your passions or the missions of your organization and inspire you to join us as we tell our stories and shine our light.

With a theme of “Reframing the Narrative,” Collage’s 15th anniversary season spotlights stories from communities of color and reclaims our space in classical narratives. Works this season include:

  • Kevin Thomas’ dazzling Firebird, set in South Africa, is a magical tale of salvation,
  • George Balanchine’s Prodigal Son, based on the biblical parable, is the ultimate tale of sin and redemption,
  • The iconic Rise ballet featuring Dr. King’s prophetic “I’ve been to the Mountaintop” speech is even more poignant with all new staging and costumes, plus,
  • A revised premiere of Their Eyes Were Watching God based on the beloved American classic by Zora Neale Hurston!

Performing at the Cannon Center for the Performing Arts and supported by the Memphis Symphony Orchestra, each production will directly touch over 2,000 audience members, as well as thousands more in the wider Memphis area through our marketing efforts leading up to the performances!

Join us as a season or production sponsor and treat your employees to a performance!

RAISING the bar

Our institutional arm, the Collage Dance Conservatory, was established in September 2009 with the mission of making outstanding ballet instruction more widely accessible. Now, through on-site training at the Collage Dance Center and Turning Pointe, our in-school dance education program, we train more kids of color in a classical art form than any other non-profit in the region.

Collage partners with 14 schools throughout Shelby County to provide high-quality dance education to students as part of their school activities. We provide instructors, barres, music, and more to model the in-school experience after our Conservatory training.

TURNING POINTE TEACHER SPONSOR

$3,500

In an effort to increase accessibility, 100% of students in the Conservatory receive subsidized tuition. To support this, we must raise $1,000 per student to bridge the gap between what our Conservatory families pay in tuition and what dance training actually costs. Additionally, we award over $100,000 in scholarships annually.
